Several years ago, my lovely, generous Godparents gave me a very nice bottle of champagne. I was incredibly touched and overwhelmed by this gesture for three reasons;
1. I rarely see my Godparents,
2. I only very occasionally get given such generous gifts – and I love champagne
3. Unbeknown to them, I was going through an incredibly difficult time in my personal life – I was in the mists of leaving a cohesive abusive partner.
At the time I really didn’t want to share such a lovely gift with him, so I decided I would put it somewhere safe, and save it for a ‘special occasion’. Eight years went by and in my mind no ‘special occasion’ happened - or so I thought. In those eight years, however, many very special occasions had happened including;
· I moved into my own house,
· I got promoted,
· Alfie and Izzy came into my life,
· I got an incredible new job,
· I got back together with Dan - my soul mate,
· Dan and I set up Kiltti.
It transpires the ‘special occasion’ I had in mind was getting the keys to a house I’d bought, or getting engaged! Whilst neither of these ‘special occasions’ have happened – yet, and who knows if they will happen, what I have come to realise, is that lots of wonderful things happen all of the time, big and small and we need to celebrate all of them.
On the evening of NYE last year, we decided to get the lovely bottle of champagne out of the safe place and open it. We leisurely drank the whole bottle seeing in the new year – slightly tipsy. Champagne always makes me happy and want to dance, so we had a little dance in our living room – enjoying every minute, because that’s what life is all about, enjoying every minute you can, and living in the moment.
